IS YOUR SITE

SEARCH ENGINE FRIENDLY?

While most of us know that SEO drives organic traffic to a site, and are already investing or about to invest on it – Do we know if our sites are geared up to get the desired results on search engines?

IS THERE A THING LIKE THAT?

I THOUGHT ALL I NEED WAS SEO?

The objective of SEO is to drive organic traffic to a site / web page. But you first need to analyse if your site is ready for SEO to be implemented. Because otherwise, it will never deliver the results you expect out of it.

Remember, not all sites perform equally even if the same SEO process is implemented (e.g. If you have recently purchased a domain and launched your site, your site will be picked up slower in the SERP’s than a site who’s domain age is more).

SO HOW DO I KNOW IF MY SITE IS SEO READY?

3 simple ways to find out if your site is ready for SEO;

1

SUBMISSION &
INDEXING

Find out if you are on Google at all, and is you are, then how many of your important pages are indexed? To do this, simply copy+paste all the important URL’s from the browser on Google and see what results they are fetching. You can also use a command site:yourdomain.com to see how many pages from your site has been indexed.

2

HOW EASILY ARE YOU BEING FOUND ON SERP'S

Also called on-page optimization. This is mostly technical and some of the most important aspects include – whether your site is optimized for all popular devices (mobile is most important), lesser page load times, internal linking on pages, optimized images, inline CSS, meta-tags, URL optimization, usage of breadcrumbs, alt-tags etc. You need to find out how much of these are already implemented, and if not already done implement these before investing in full-fledged SEO.

3

TRACKING, GOAL SETTING & FOLLOW UP ACTIONS

Is the site hooked up with Analytics & Search Console? Do you track your visitor activities? Have you set goals and follow up actions to track results on specific campaigns? You need to define the processes for the web traffic to visit your web pages, and track their activity.

SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMIZATION

IN LAYMAN'S TERMS ...

Search Engine Optimization is the process of making your business presence / website / web page / landing page popular in the internet space, so that the online traffic come to know about it, and start visiting / contacting it.

When you have a physical store, or a business which requires physical interaction – depending upon who and what you serve, you’ll need to promote it in your local, national or global market. In SEO, you do the same, but online, so that your prospective audience can find you easily on the internet

THE SEO STEPS

A standard, planned SEO process is always campaign driven (i.e. it is a continuous process and works in multiple phases, instead of a single phase). The concept is just like your offline business so when you have a physical store, you do not generally put all eggs in one basket, while promoting it.

The 3 main components of a SEO process / campaign are;

1

PRE SEO

Site submission & Keyword research

2

TECHNICAL SEO

Also known as on-page optimization, this step measures how easily your site / page could be found out on the SERP’s.

3

OFF-PAGE SEO

This step deals with making your site popular on the site engines, by generating backlinks for / to the site / page.
